My work as an equity consultant is rooted in a strong background in Ethnic Studies. I chose to live in the San Francisco Bay Area for almost 20 years because it is the birthplace of this movement. My mentors are the people who fought for Ethnic Studies and the International Hotel and I was the first office manager at Kearny Street Workshop, the longest standing multidisciplinary Asian Pacific American arts organization in the US, when they first became a non-profit. I have also taught with Asian Youth Promoting Advocacy and Leadership in Oakland and was on a team that facilitated a devised theatre work based on the history of the Black Panthers at Oakland High School for the Arts.

I offer an embodied approach to equity work informed by my somatic and psychodrama training. I have taken the Foundations in Somatic Abolition course with Resmaa Menakem MSW, LICSW, author of My Grandmother’s Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies. I believe that because the weight of white supremacy and colonization is so heavy and has touched each individual in different ways, we have to prepare our nervous systems to be able to have productive conversations about these matters. And different people may need different things during the process, because of our various subject positions.

I have facilitated workshops with Be The Change Consulting in Oakland and done Playback Theatre for trainings offered by Oakland Freedom Theatre and Dailey Innovations, Inc. based in Washington DC. I have also hosted an equity training led by Visions, Inc. at Pomona College where I was chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance for two years. Thus, I have been exposed to and facilitated various approaches towards the goal of transforming harmful beliefs and assumptions, behaviors, and organizational structures. I know and can implement the approaches that work best in various environments in terms of moving us towards collective liberation.
